Colleen Oakley has done it again! I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of Oakley’s upcoming release, Close Enough to Touch, from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Did you get a chance to read her debut novel, Before I go, about a young woman with breast cancer who is searching for a replacement wife for her husband before she dies? Sounds morbid, I know. But the uplifting tone and endearing characters make for an intriguing page-turner. Same is true in Close Enough to Touch, scheduled for release on March 7.
Jubilee Jenkins (great name, right?) has a unique medical condition. She’s allergic to people. Literally. Direct contact with the cells from other people can cause her to go into anaphylactic shock. After kissing another boy in high school nearly leads to her death, and her mother runs off with her new husband to live in another party of the country, Jubilee spends the next nine years of her life as recluse, terrified to leave her house. When circumstances beyond her control force her from her home out into the real world, she lands a job at the local library and begins to make amends with her past. I admire the guts it takes for Jubilee to leave her home, and the spunk with which she encounters her new world, including the handsome Eric Keegan. As you might imagine, in true Oakley Style, Eric Keegan is not without problems of his own.
