As a child, I aspired to be just like my mother when I grew up. Especially at Christmas time. She made everything look fun—the cooking and shopping and decorating. She never complained nor acted tired, although I’m sure she was exhausted. I followed her around the house, helping when and wherever I could. If I got in her way—and I’m sure I did more often than not—she never shooed me away.
When I learned the truth about Santa Claus, after I got over my initial disappointment, I was overjoyed not only at the prospect of one day starting my own traditions but of being the one responsible for filling stockings and displaying doll houses and bicycles and the other Santa gifts under the tree. As women, we’re responsible for making the magic of Christmas happen. It takes a magician to accomplish all that we accomplish in the month of December. This Christmas, I want to celebrate you, the Mrs. Clauses, to thank you for all that you do for your family and friends and those less fortunate than you. Thanks for the chance! I like to read sitting on my glider on our deck. I can hear the sounds of nature – birds chirping, watching the squirrels rushing by on the fence, listening to the children playing in the school yard across the street. I find myself relaxing & enjoying the whole experience. At night I read in bed while my husband watches TV. The TV doesn’t bother me, I tune it out & settle down for a good read!
